Podesk’s "drag and drop" functionality makes publishing video a snap through a small application you install on your desktop. You decide what to publish simply by dragging video from your desktop. Your video is compressed and hosted directly and instantly from your computer. Once published, you can access your video over a regular browser, or throught the podcast feed. Or if you are in a hurry, you can simply record from your webcam!
Podesk is using state of the art H.264 codec which is now reaching the masses with its support in the latest Flash Player.
And You can also publish mp3 files and Pictures!
How it works ?
Using Podesk is simple:
Enter a title and the text content of the video (it can be tags).
Drag and drop your videofile or press record to record from your webcam.
Podesk encodes, uploads the video to your web site and creates the thumbnails, the web page and the RSS2 wrapper for podcasting.
Solution
Podesk is composed of a desktop software : Podesk Publisher (Windows XP and Mac OSX), and a server side CMS (Content Management System) : Podesk Server.
The Podesk Server is an Open Source server and is free to use and adapt : you have total control over the distribution of your videos.
History
05-2003 : Proof of concept.
10-2003 : Alpha Release (Patchouli), a Content Management System is created form scratch (Patchouli Manager).
11-2004 : First Beta Release(Patchouli).
12-2004 : Podesk (Patchouli) is selected for the Monaco Dance Forum 2004 Project Initiative Appeal.
A presentation is made at the Garimaldi Forum in front of an enthusiast crowd.
07-2005 : The Patchouli Manager, lacking some features is put in stand-by.
08-2005 : The Podesk Plugin is created and beta-released for the DotClear CMS.
09-2005 : Podesk Publisher for windows is released
10-2005 : Podesk Publisher Beta 3 is released, with a new user interface and support for webcam for the windows version
03-2006 : Podesk Publisher adds iPod automatic encoding support on the Mac OSX version. Podesk Demo Server adds a FLV converter based on FFMPEG.
05-2006 : New podesk Server release with a cache option (CoralCDN), FLV encoding interface, MPEG7 and Creative Commons support.
07-2006 : Podesk Server now supports multi blogs.
12-2006 : Podesk is nominated for best business plan idea at Venture Cup West
05-2007 : Support for mp3 audio and Pictures
12-2007 : Support for H264 with Flash 9 “Moviestar".
